Independently of discussions whether literature has a function, and whether it has one or more functions, the majority of scholars agree that literary texts have, at least, one function. Those scholars that have dealt with the effects which literary texts produce, have often interpreted it as a literary function. In any case, whether it be catharsis, or dulce, the literary text in itself contains philosophy and aesthetics.
